Weba x Hugo Boss

Even though considerable efforts have been made to establish secure chain-of-custody systems for Egyptian cotton, the number of products labelled as “Egyptian cotton” sold in the market significantly surpasses the production of premium Egyptian cotton. This implies that without physical traceability, one cannot be sure if Egyptian cotton products are really what they are claimed to be.

Weba is a Swiss manufacturer that produces high-end fabrics for over 75 years, partnering with local farmers in Egypt who cultivate their exclusive GIZA 45, GIZA 86 and GIZA 96 cotton. Since 2019, Haelixa’s technology has allowed Weba to protect its premium Egyptian cotton products by tracing every single step in its supply chain.

Project Scope

Using a unique DNA marker, Haelixa marks the premium Egyptian cotton at the ginnery, and Weba uses this marked cotton to create the finest fabric. The resulting fabric is then supplied to garment makers, who manufacture the final garments for brands like Hugo Boss.

Samples of lint cotton, yarn, and fabric are verified at different steps, thereby enabling the identification of the premium product, from its origin and within the supply chain.

Within the context of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) initiative “The Sustainability Pledge” Haelixa and Weba have worked together to create a truly unique traceable fabric, which was used to make Hugo Boss cotton dress shirts.

“Transaprency has been one of the most important goals since we started harvesting organic GIZA cotton in Egypt. The unique Haelixa technology is a major break-through in guaranteeing full physical traceability along the whole supply chain.”
